The perfect smokey eye makeup

Although sometimes we can feel incredibly lazy about putting on makeup (whether in the morning before work or when going out at night), we should always add a touch of colour. Our eyes are our strongest feature, so we should make the most of them.

Smokey eyes are the best choice for your eyes

The smokey eyes makeup, or smoky eyes in English, can be very dramatic, but it can also be light and subtle for going to work in the morning. You choose the intensity of the makeup.

Follow these steps if you want completely black smokey eyes. If you prefer a lighter smoky look, simply replace the colours shown here with the ones you like;

1. Apply concealer first. Apply concealer to the eyelid and under the eye to leave the area shine-free, smooth and even.

2. Distinguish between the two parts of the eyelid. As you get closer to the inner corner of the eye, the colours should be lighter and more luminous. Start applying black eyeshadow to the eyelid from the outside and gradually change to grey as you move towards the inner corner. This will give the eyelid two clearly defined colours.

3. Apply eyeliner. Working from the outside in, draw a line close to the lash line and blend it with a brush to start creating the gradient. Blend towards the sides of the eyelid and upwards too—don't be afraid. This will cover the entire eyelid in black.

4. Use a shimmery eyeshadow for the inner corner. Once you have blended black eyeshadow and eyeliner over the entire eyelid, take a lighter shade such as grey or nude with plenty of shimmer and apply it from the inner corner to the middle of the eyelid. This way, the shimmer will blend into the black across the entire eyelid. This will complete your smokey eyes look.

5. Apply eyeshadow to the lower eyelid. Everyone has different tastes... so this step is optional. If you want a complete smokey eyes look, apply black eyeshadow just below the lower lashes to create a fully smoky-eye effect.

6. Don't forget the brow bone. To make your eyes look bigger and more defined, gently apply white eyeshadow just beneath the brow (on the bone that shapes the eyebrow).

7. Finally... Mascara! To keep your eyes looking defined, don't forget to apply mascara afterwards to complete your smokey eyes look.
