WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A BRA, A BRALETTE AND A CROP TOP?

SAME FUNCTIONS, DIFFERENT PURPOSES

With so many options, bras, bralettes and crop tops, it's easy to get confused. At first glance, they may seem interchangeable, but each one has a different purpose, both in terms of design and function.

Are you looking for complete support? Underwire-free comfort? A garment you can wear as part of your outfit?

Here, we explain how they differ, when to wear each one and how to choose the one that suits you (and your plans).

BRA: STRUCTURE, SUPPORT AND TRADITION Ā

  • The classic choice. A bra usually has underwires and cups (with or without padding) and adjustable straps. It is primarily designed to support the bust and provide shape. It is the most commonly worn option for everyday wear, especially if you are looking for structured support.

    THE MOST COMMON TYPES:

Ā· Balconette bras: with a straighter neckline.

Ā· Bandeau bras: strapless, ideal for strapless tops.
Ā· Padded / unpadded bras: for more or less shape.
Ā· Bras with multiway straps: to suit different garments

Perfect if you need plenty of support or want a defined silhouette.

BRALETTE: COMFORT, LIGHTNESS AND RELAXED STYLE Ā

  • The bralette is the relaxed cousin of the bra. It usually has no underwire or structured padding. It is designed for women who prioritise comfort without giving up on style.

It is a blend of lingerie and fashion. Many lace bralettes, such as the halter bralette or the one with a balconette neckline, can be worn visibly under blouses, blazers or open shirts.

  • IDEAL FOR:
Ā· Long days when you need to feel comfortable
Ā· More relaxed or bohemian looks
Ā· Small or medium breasts (although there are options with support for larger breasts)

If you can't stand underwires or want to wear underwear that also works as part of your look.

CROP TOP: MORE THAN LINGERIE, PART OF THE OUTFIT Ā

WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE? Ā

It depends on what you need at that moment:

BRA
Firm support.

BRALETTE
All-day comfort.

BRALETTE OR CROP TOP
A visible garment in your look.

BANDEAU BRA
Something strapless.

CROP TOP
Something to wear as a summer top.

WHAT IF YOU WANT IT ALL IN ONE?
Some bralettes can work as crop tops, and many bras already come with invisible or multifunctional options.
